Christchurch really turns it on in December. We have gorgeous summer days, and the anticipation of looking forward to Christmas, and hopefully spending time off with our families or loved ones.
Christmas can be a stressor, and thoughts of what to get people combined with Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales can get ridiculous. Instead of focussing on sales and stuff we really need to come back to what’s important.
I want to encourage you to think about what the best gift that you can give someone you love. Personally, I feel the best gift you can give someone is time.
Of course, that can be spending time with friends and family to show them how much they matter to you. It’s also vitally important that you are able to give the gift of time to yourself. How can you give the very best to those you love and care for if you’re not giving time for yourself also?
Make sure that this season that you allow moments, gaps, even if it’s just two or three minutes or half an hour. Grasp those moments in time that allow yourself a spot to breathe, so you have an opportunity to invest in yourself.
It may be obvious, but the Holiday Season includes the word ‘holiday.’ How many of us though are actually looking forward to a period of rest and relaxation, or are you focussed on all that needs to be done?
This year is interesting in that Christmas falls on a Wednesday. There will be some, myself included that are working through this holiday period and only resting on the stat days. I’ll be in Stay Well Pharmacy on December 24th and December 27th, but we still need to maximise our holiday time despite all of the insanity and rushing around. Make sure you delegate or ask for help if you’re feeling overwhelmed, because no one person should be doing it all.
You may need to make time for others, but when you can, grasp those moments in the day to take a break for yourself, step off the hamster wheel of life, and breathe.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, like all the pressures of the season are getting to you, find someone you trust that you can talk to and confide in. You can even book a time to talk with me at Stay Well Clinic. If you need some help unwinding and letting go of the day’s pressures, I can teach you valuable techniques to increase your mindfulness and mental wellbeing.
Be safe, be kind to one another, and remember the greatest gift you can give someone is time.

If you get sick, work doesn’t stop, does it? Life, and everything about it carries on. When you’re not at work, your workmates have to carry on without you. So would you rather take action so you don't get sick in the first place?

Spring doesn’t need to be the season for itchy eyes and sneezing.
But that’s what Spring is for so many of us. Christchurch comes alive with blossoms and daffodils, but we can’t appreciate any of it through our red, watery eyes.
At Stay Well Pharmacy we are all geared up to keep you well through Spring.
